There has never been a time before where there have been so many different styles of jeans available at once but which are the best styles for your figure over 40?

I'm hoping the amount of choice is to do with more acceptance of different body types and perhaps a pull away from fast fashion with less tolerance of the Trend of the Week - remember those! Either way we have more choice than ever before and while that can be a good thing it can also make finding the perfect jeans more overwhelming, especially when we've tried and tested many of these styles the first time round!

Fashion still has cycles but they’re much slower than they used to be. The length of time it’s taken for waistbands to start dropping again has really surprised me and while we now have more mid and low rise styles than we have for quite a while we still have a really good choice of high rise jeans to choose from too. Perfect for us menopausal women with the new extra padding on our tummy.

Saying all of that, changes in finishes, lengths, cuts and the stretch of jeans updates each season making jeans an easy way to keep our look fresh and up to date. While the cycle of the mom jeans was short lived and skinny jeans starting to look a little dated on some of us, they are both still easily found amongst new styles, like the barrel leg jean, but in varying rise heights and with less distressing than we’ve seen in the past.

Along with the new barrel leg style (a spin off from the carrot style a couple of years ago) we also have a huge resurgence of the wide leg, front pocket, high rise, 70s style jean (a favourite of mine) and flares or boot-cut as we knew them in the 00’s. Cargo style jeans are trying to make a break through but they don't seem to be taking off. I don't see these as a lasting trend yet.

In addition to rises changing on jeans we’re also seeing a switch to less stretch this season which can limit your options somewhat if you’re blessed with a curvy figure.

But as I said there has never been such a wide choice of styles available at once which means the perfect pair of jeans for you is out there!

Here’s my top matches for jeans and your body shape for A/W24

Curvy figures with hourglass or pear shape will feel most comfortable and get the best fit from high waisted jeans with stretch, the curvier you are the more stretch you’ll want - look for four way stretch and 2-3% elastane in boot cut, slim, or skinny styles.

For a fuller tummy like and Apple figure or some V body types, _skinny and straight styles with stretch will be ideal for you, keep waistbands super high over the tummy or low rise on the hips and counter balance with longer tops untucked._You’ll need four way stretch for comfort and support.

For more straight figures with no defined waist like Straight and V body types styles with no stretch that hold their shape well and provide tummy support will feel really good. Wide and straight leg styles will work really well on you and complement your straight lines.
